nature vs politics !!!

First it’s was Obama,now it’s Sarkozy.same difference.
Seeing India as a lucrative cradle for application of technology, developed countries are leaving no stone unturned to invest in here for their own profit. The recent visit of France’s President Sarkozy served as a blow to many citizens of India.
The reason : installation of 2 nuclear reactors in Jaitapur,Maharashtra amidst great uproar by the public and media alike.the goal of France eventually is to establish a  whole lot of 6 nuclear reactors.
India,is allegedly to fulfill its 50% of power needs via nuclear energy by 2050.How I wish the world would come to an end in 2012...
The background of this deal goes a long way back, when France was the first supporter of India’s not signing of the non –proliferation treaty. That support was envisaged by France  quite correctly.India offers wide opportunities to western powers to expand their businesses in the garb of improvement of the‘developing states’.be it America ,or France.same difference.
With this political backdrop, the villagers of mumbai seem to understand nothing but their vitality and stability.’ The protest is the latest by fishermen, farmers and their families who will have to move to make way for the 9,900-megawatt plant, which the government hopes will help alleviate India's crippling energy deficit. They have rejected a compensation package and raised fears about the contamination of fish stocks, plus concerns about the loss of agricultural land, including for growing mangoes, which are one of the state's main crops. Campaigners also say that locating the plant in an earthquake-prone zone is "deeply irresponsible", with the risk compounded by the lack of an independent regulator to oversee India's nuclear industry and NPCIL's safety record.’states the
economic times.
the question is why did India agree to all this??
INDIA The CHAMPION OF The OPPRESSED IGNORED THE PEOPLE’S PROTESTS AND CONTINUED TO APPEASE FRANCE.WHY?

the possible answer to this question is that France has immensely advocated support for india’s inclusion in the security council of the UN.this really does put the honesty and credibility of our two honorable ministers in bad light.
we as responsible citizens can only keep track of the developments in the country, and make sure she is put to no harm. but when politics mixes with anything as holy as the nature it’s bound to corrupt it as well.

wildlife week's worries...

The whales are killed in the deep ocean, the tusks are being removed from elephants and the skins and bones of tiger are exchanged in the border area, rare migratory birds are captured and sold in the black markets around the world. Yet, every year around this time (October 2 to 8) Wildlife Week is celebrated by governments, environmentalists, activists to accelerate the awareness of wildlife conservation among people.

India has two hot spots — the eastern Himalayas and the Western Ghats — is one of the 12 mega-diversity countries. With only 2.4 per cent of the global land area, it possesses more than 45,000 plant species representing about 11 per cent of the world's biota. The flowering plants comprise about 17,500 species that represent more than 6 per cent of world's known flowering plants. There are a number of botanical curiosities in the Himalayas only.

tiger gets the lion’s share:
tiger continues to be cynosure the government's conservationist efforts. Is it because tiger is our national animal? If so, what about peacock, the national bird? The rampant killing of this beautiful bird continues unabated for its feather in India.

dolphin’s dreadful demise??
Among various critically endangered species, the plight of Ganges river dolphin is an indicative of the government's callous attitude to the wildlife. The river dolphins, one of the four fresh water dolphins in the world, found in the Indian Subcontinent are on the verge of extinction.
discrimination unabated.....

besides tigers there are many species that are on the verge of extinction or endangered and also as important as tigers for the balance of ecosystems. But other animals such as elephants, musk deer, Tibetan antelope, rhinoceros, red panda, Ganges river dolphin, etc., are not getting similar care.

this wildlife’s week these are the few of many questions we need to answer??
is mr. jairam ready??
another sad chapter in the history of our long forgotten fauna...

She the savior; you the destroyer…

They say those who endeavor for others’ happiness end up being alone;
How true does this seem in this incentive seeking world .
The earth made our life worth living, comforting us ever since.
But what does she get in return?
Nonchalance, callousness and despair!!

Mothers as always are unconditional lovers,
Compassionate and caring, thoughtful and tireless…
But the children ready to lift their dreams high…
Easily Forgetful of all her sacrifices made!!

The mother always gives, never demands...
For the dreams you see, the seeds she sows.
For how much higher you fly…
She eyes you and keeps her arms open; if you fall!

She guards you, she guides you!
Yet you ignorantly trample upon her…
Crushing her very existence.
Selfish, cowards, is what you are!!

Giving you shade amidst the heat of hurdles.
Enriching your soul, with the drops of thunder.
The softness of leaves, the aroma of flowers...
The tenderness of shrubs, the fiery sun!

All she gives to you, for you she lived
But because of you she’ll die..!!

She has done the unthinkable…
And you are just unstoppable...
Searching avenues of success...
Ignoring the companion without which you would be nothing!!

I see that you and I are making it whimper...
I dread that we will strangulate her…
Making her cry for her own existence..
What will ‘we’ get in return??

Definite destruction, absolute annihilation
Total termination…!!!
Wake up!! Save her….save us!!

THE DAYS THOSE WERE..

Fifty years have passed since the new millennium,
And we did celebrate it with the humble old rum,
Those were the days of gusto and joy,
when the nature restrained itself to play its ploy.

Those were the days when the songs of the cuckoo used to wake us,
when the fragrance of the fresh lilies used to greet us,
When the morning was full of the cool breeze,
and the scattering of the pollens used to make us sneeze.

Those were the days when the colours of the nature were as vibrant as a rainbow,
when the cuckoo used to lay her eggs in the nest of the crow,
when the peacocks used to dance spreading her multi-hued feathers,
and the lovebirds used to croon joyously together.

Those were the days, my son, every drop of the river was as pure as the smile on a young girl's face,
when the pulchritude of the blue planet was known in the whole space,
When the nature was bestowed with the title "mother",
and this magnanimous mother used to shower us with these colourfull weathers.

When the greens of the trees,
and the blue of the seas,
used to blend together,
the way long lost mates used to embrace each other.

Where are those days gone, my son?
Humans have still not learned their lesson,
We continue to malign those beautiful rivers,
which will erase the smile from the girl's face forever.

Where are those lovely birds, my son?
Humans have forced them to run,
No cuckoo or crow or peacock or an occasional sparrow,
we have targeted each and every winged creature with our cruel arrows.

I still miss the scent of those lilies,
We have driven these blossoms to flee,
These buds of new life are nowhere to be seen,
all this shows how much humans have become so mean.

There is still time my son; to reverse these disastrous effects,
To live a beautiful life or not; you select,
I have learned my mistakes; now it is your turn,
please make the nature return those ferns...

Hear the mother’s call; lest we all shall fall

The nature has bestowed its bounties on us.
Selflessly;
The man has crushed all hopes for future
Recklessly;
We never stop just for once to reflect,
What the past gave us, what we took from the present and what the future holds??
All we do is run; run fast; faster still…
In search of newer revelations, brighter prospects, more comforts, more supremacy!!
In this crave to touch newer heights…
We end up touching newer lows.
This crave for more power breeds innovation
It leaves us more of a pauper than anything else.

It takes us away from the cool shade of the trees,
Away from the daily songs of the birds,
Away from nature’s lullabies.
Away from you,
Away from me!

The earth gave us all hints it could,
Caused devastations to make us see sense,
The tsunamis, the floods, the droughts, the hunger, the despair!!
What more?
Rising temperatures; melting glaciers
Winters getting colder, summers hotter still.
Materialistic Man is too busy contemplating these phenomenons as ‘scientific’,
When I believe that the mother is bleeding, crying out loud, moaning!
In the hope…that it may be heard, above the deafening silence we live in.

The nature has bestowed its bounties on us.
Selflessly;
The man has crushed all hopes for future
Recklessly;

IS THE ‘BIG CAT’ TO GO THE ‘RHINO’ WAY??

India holds over half the world's tiger population. According to the latest tiger census report released on February 12, 2008 by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the current tiger population stands at 1,411. The results include figures from 16 tiger states and are exclusive of Jharkhand and Sunderbans as the state of West Bengal was covered only partially (i.e. North Bengal) during the census.

A shocking reality on the data provided by the government is that the real tiger count is much less than the official anticipated total due the uncertainty in counting the pug marks.

Ø How from 1 lack to 4000 in the world?

The count of the tiger in the world reduced drastically from 1 lack to 4000 within two decades. In India the following reasons play havoc..:

The struggle between the tribal and the tigers living in ‘harmony’ is supposedly the main cause for these dwindling figures. The lure of money and incentives form Tibetans and Chinese allow poachers to vanquish the mighty mammal. The big cat faces threat from mindless mining and other human activities within 1 km of the reserves.

The government apart from making stringent laws on paper hasn’t been able to achieve much via its policies.

Humans in their race to establish their supremacy over all is falling into an abyss from where mother earth would not be able to save him.

Ø Why is there such a great hassle for saving the national animal??

I think for many of us, the answer lies in the question itself. But for the aware, saving the tiger goes a long way in saving our environment. The food chain ensures that the survival of tigers means its ‘prey base’ is well flourishing which protects the herbivores of its own accord. To protect the herbivores, the lush green forests need to thrive. And the forests as we all are well aware are the storehouse of the prosperity of a nation, economic and ecological. eventually save tiger ,save us!!

Policies of the govt..:

· National Tiger Conservation Authority and the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. 66 national parks and 421 wildlife sanctuaries were set aside and later increased to 99 national parks, 514 sanctuaries, 43 conservation reserves and 4 community reserves.

· Recently the environment committee refused to allow seven coal mining projects in Madhya Pradesh chhindwara district .this came as a landmark as this region falls in the corridor connecting PENCH and SATPURA reserves which is frequently used by tigers as a thoroughfare from one reserve to another.

How can you do your bit??

What can me and you do to save the striped animal? Be aware of the changes in the environment and use the RTI to ask the authorities of what they are doing to save the tiger.

We can associate ourselves with NGO s sensitive to the cause and spread awareness all the same.

Organize marathons and bring together your society to in this noble cause .make the people understand of the repercussions of the extinction of the tiger.

Visit the national zoological park which in turn helps pay for the sustenance of animals there.

a recent news proves that the sariska gets its 4th tiger ,which may help repopulate the tiger reserve for good.hoping for many more such encouragements from the scientists of the country and our environment minister:shri jairam ramesh.
